Sesame Seeds, in every name and every grade
If your specification, your search, or your product label uses one of these names, you are looking at the same crop, and we supply it.
Sesame seed is called by many different names across India and across global trade. Sesame (English, used in most international contracts), Gingelly (English, common in South Indian and Sri Lankan trade), Ellu (Kannada and Tamil), Til (Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati), Nuvvulu (Telugu), Yellu (also Kannada), Achellu (Malayalam). Whichever name you are working with, the underlying crop is Sesamum indicum, and we supply it from the Mysore region in bulk, in every commonly traded grade.
Variants we stock and supply
- Natural white sesame (unhulled)
- The default grade most edible-oil mills and a large share of food-processing buyers source. Skin intact, higher oil yield, characteristic Mysore aroma.
- Hulled (decorticated) sesame
- Skin removed, paler in colour, used in bakery, confectionery, halva, tahini, and ready-to-eat applications. Available in standard and premium clean grades.
- Black sesame
- Distinct cultivar, supplied for traditional culinary use, Ayurvedic preparations, and select export markets where black sesame commands a premium.
- Mixed grade and processing-grade lots
- For oil-extraction mills and animal-feed buyers who do not need cleaning-grade uniformity, we supply price-optimised lots that meet your oil yield or feed specification.
Why Mysore sesame
Sesame from the Mysore region has a regionally distinct flavour profile, a high oil content, and a consistent seed plumpness that buyers from other parts of India and overseas specifically seek out. The soil, the rainfall pattern of the Cauvery basin, and the traditional harvest practices of the surrounding districts combine to produce a sesame that other growing regions cannot reliably substitute, even when the same crop is technically available there. This is the reason a large share of our sesame moves outside Karnataka.
Typical quality specifications we deliver
- Moisture content: 5 to 6 percent on delivery, lower available on request
- Oil content: typically 48 to 52 percent for natural white Mysore sesame
- Purity: 99 percent and above for cleaning-grade lots
- Foreign matter: below 1 percent on cleaning-grade, below 2 percent on processing-grade
- Damaged or broken seed: below 2 percent on cleaning-grade
- Packing: 25 kg, 30 kg, 50 kg jute or PP bags, or custom per buyer specification

Order quantities we handle
We are set up to operate across a wide scale range, on the same supply network and the same quality benches.
- 5 quintals to 5 metric tons: small-batch buyers, food processors trialling a new SKU, regional retailers and brands. Quick consolidation, dispatched same week subject to lot availability.
- 5 to 50 metric tons: mid-size FMCG and food-processing volumes. Standard purchase order, standard payment terms, standard transit windows.
- 50 to 500 metric tons: contracted seasonal supply for large FMCGs, edible-oil mills, and exporters. Multi-source aggregation, scheduled drawdown across the season, end-to-end documentation.
Who we typically supply
Our sesame moves to major FMCG companies, branded edible-oil companies, food-processing buyers, bakery and confectionery manufacturers, animal-feed companies, fertilizer companies, and exporters in these domains, across India. The same operational team handles small specialty orders and large contracted volumes; the supply network and quality standards do not change with order size.
Compliance, documentation, and logistics across India
Bulk agricultural produce supply involves more than the produce itself. We are fully compliant with the regulatory framework for agricultural trading in India, including FSSAI requirements for food-grade produce, the Karnataka APMC framework under which we hold a licensed trade, and GST registration and invoicing. For food-grade buyers who require chain-of-custody assurance in transit, we coordinate dispatch through FSSAI-certified logistics providers. Buyers who export the produce onward handle their own APEDA registration, phytosanitary certification, and port-side paperwork through their preferred freight forwarders.
We ship anywhere in India. A large share of our sesame moves outside Karnataka because the regional quality is not substitutable elsewhere, and we know the operational complexities of moving agri commodities across state borders, particularly through the inter-state e-way bill system, perishable-cargo handling, and seasonal transit constraints during the monsoon.
How to start
- Send us your specification. If you have one, share it. If you do not, tell us your end-use (oil mill, food, feed, export, etc.) and we will propose a specification that fits.
- We send a quote. Market-linked, line-by-line, against the specification you confirmed. No legacy premium.
- Sample if you need one. Available for new buyers on commercially reasonable terms.
- Confirm and dispatch. Standard payment terms apply. Dispatch window depends on lot availability and order size.
For more on what to evaluate when choosing any APMC trader for the first time, our checklist on what to ask any APMC trader before placing your first order sets out the clarifying questions that make sure the supplier you pick is the right fit for your specification, volume, and timing, so both sides end up in a deal that holds. On the question of why an established trader is not automatically a more expensive one, see why generational experience means a better price, not a higher one.
How KVM & Co. handles this for you
KVM & Co. carries a trading lineage in Mysore going back to 1932, four generations of operating in the same regional commodity belt with the same farmers, commission agents, and weighmen. That presence is not nostalgia; it is operational depth. It means we know which villages produce which quality of sesame in which week of the season, which lots are likely to move at which price, and when to hold versus when to lift. We stay current with IMD weather forecasts, MSP announcements, APMC arrivals data, and regional harvest patterns, and we cross-check what we read against what our network of farmers and commission agents tells us on the ground that morning.
A lot of agricultural produce is regionally specific. The quality of sesame that grows in and around Mysore has characteristics that buyers in other parts of India cannot reliably substitute, even when the same crop is available locally. Buyers from across the country come to us for exactly that reason, and we ship anywhere in India, working with FSSAI-certified logistics providers when food-grade chain-of-custody is required. We are fully compliant with FSSAI norms, the Karnataka APMC framework, and GST regulations, and we know the logistics complexities of moving agri commodities across state lines at any scale, from five quintals to five hundred metric tons.
Our customer base reflects this: major FMCG companies, branded edible-oil companies, produce suppliers, animal-feed companies, fertilizer companies, and exporters in these domains, across India. They do not buy from us for sentiment; they buy because the price, quality, and timing curve works out for them, repeatably, at the scales they need.
In a commoditised market there is no premium for experience, but there is a right price for the right quality at the right time. That is what experience lets us get you. If you are evaluating a bulk order, please reach out for a quote and we will tell you honestly what the market looks like, not what we want to sell you.
